Sage Total College Process
During this 5-week curriculum, all aspects and intricacies
of the college process will be thoroughly explored, reviewed
and simplified. The initial workshop is designed to prepare
and teach parents and students about the college admissions
process. Throughout the remaining workshops, students will
learn about choosing the most appropriate college, writing
college admissions essays, filling out the college application,
and how to best prepare for the college interview.
Everything About College
Admissions and Financial Aid
No doubt, navigating through the college process is one of
the more challenging tasks families will have to confront
in their life times. Part of what makes the college search
so daunting and stressful is due largely to the fact that
access to pertinent information about this process just doesn’t
exist or is very difficult to uncover. These workshops are
specifically designed to teach families about the essential
components of this process and will make them better prepared
to conduct a more effective college search. Key points covered
in this session include:
- College prep - “What courses should I take in High
School”
- Planning calendar to college arrival
- Admissions - What you should know, applications, essays,
interviews, dates and deadlines
- Financial Aid - What you should know, forms, grants, scholarship,
need-based aid, work-study, and loans
Sage Life Systems
This on line e-Life system helps the student to:
- Devise a strong goal identification model.
- Establish methodical action steps to achieve those goals.
- Build a long-term process for maintaining this goal path.
This is a real life workshop, not classroom theory—the
student will actually be defining and achieving personal life
goals in real time, building independence, confidence, personal
power and personal style in the process.

The Knockout College Interview
Note: Interview with student should be done at or near first
student meeting with Sage Group.
The Sage Group interview process, mirrors that of the college
model and students should expect this discussion to last approximately
1-1 ½ hours. Upon completion of the interview, The
Sage Group facilitator will schedule a debrief session with
the student to review their strengths and weaknesses. Ultimately,
the goal of the facilitator will be to help the student improve
in areas of strengths and minimize any areas of weakness.
Overall Objectives:
- To gain a clear self-identity, and understand the value
of the identity in context with the college interview.
- Understand how the college admissions officers are viewing
and interpreting the information shared in the interview.
- Understand the reality that the college interview process
is a 50:50 proposition; the college is interviewing the
student as much as the student is interviewing the college.
- Understand the unspoken rules of the college interview;
(this workshop is not about memorizing answers)

Which Colleges are for me?
The reality is, there are many good choices for today’s
students, as far as colleges and universities are concerned.
The challenge is pinpointing and determining which one is
the best or most appropriate for you. Addressing this challenge
requires an extensive amount of understanding, exposure, experience
and knowledge with regards to the higher education industry.
The Sage Group ensures that the prospective student understands
what options are available to them, while keeping in mind:
- Funding/Aid objectives of the family.
- The personality and learning nature of the prospective
student.
- The student’s academic performance, personal and
athletic interests.
- Geographic preferences/desired environment (big/small/urban,
etc)
- Previous learning environment(s) in which the student
has succeeded, struggled or failed.
- The academic major the student is considering.
- The extent to which the student needs individualized support.
The Sage Group facilitator seeks to augment the knowledge
of high school based college advisors and college admissions
counselors, not to replace them.

Writing a College Essay That
Stands Out
The Sage Group Facilitator will assess the student’s
writing style and skill. They will incorporate student’s
past written work as well as work written together in the
workshop. The goal of this session is to:
- Write a memorable college essay, by improving the accuracy
and interest level, in which it tells the student’s
story.
- Gain student/family understanding of the role essays play
in college admissions.
An accurate essay is a powerful essay, a joy to read. An
accurate essay is not clichéd. Approximately 98% of
college essays are not memorable. The Sage Group will help
the student deliver a strong, well-written and unique essay
that stands out from the rest.
