Glastonbury Businessman Featured in USA Today – A Small Business Success Story
Finding a niche by demystifying the competitive college admissions process for families.

GLASTONBURY, Conn., November 22, 2006 – Doing what you love and turning it into a successful business is a rare achievement, but Stephen Spaulding, a native of Clinton, North Carolina has accomplished just that. Stephen was recently featured in the Small Business Section of USA Today, which highlighted small business success stories. For Stephen, he’s taken what he’s learned working for different prestigious colleges and universities admissions departments and translated that experience into a comprehensive program for those anxious high school juniors and seniors looking to land in the university of their choice. 

Stephen established The Sage Group, which helps families navigate the complex college process.  Sage seeks to better match the college with the person rather than the person to the college.  Sage teaches student families how to represent their “story” uniquely- so that it stands out in an applicant pool.
"He is the best at what he does," says Kevin Taylor, a a consulting music director at BET, who recently used Stephen to work with his college bound son.  “Stephen simplified the process and took the college process from a painful one to one that I greatly enjoyed.”

Stephen founded The Sage Group, LLC six years ago and feels passionately about his third attempt at entrepreneurship.  As USA Today reported, he opened and closed a restaurant called Fables in his twenties and an information technology search firm in his thirties. 
He attributes his success today with The Sage Group, LLC to finding a pursuit that connects to his passion on a daily basis.  It also does not hurt that families are increasingly stressed over the process of gaining admission to US Colleges.  Stephen self published the “Handbook to Navigating the College Process- The 50 Things You Must Know”© available as an eBook.
